Engineering

Founding Engineer

Sakura Health · Bay Area, California (US) · Regular on-site time at partner clinics and hospitals

Sakura Health builds AI agents that sit alongside front and back office teams, handling scheduling, referral intake, prior authorization, and the other manual workflows that slow down a healthcare practice. Less time lost to admin means more time for care, and better outcomes for the patients on the other end of it. We already have a strong technical founding team out of MIT, IIT, and Harvard, and we're looking for an early engineer to dig in with them and build the product fast.

§ 01

Why this role stands out

01

You'll work shoulder to shoulder with a founding team from MIT, IIT, and Harvard and have real influence over how we build from here, not just how things get done today.

02

You'll spend real time inside clinics and hospitals, so you see exactly how your work changes someone's actual shift, not just a chart on a dashboard.

03

You'll get fluent across AI agents, cloud infrastructure, and healthcare compliance all at once, which is a rare combination to pick up this early in a career.

§ 02

What you'll actually be doing

Build the agents

Design and ship the agents themselves: voice agents, multi-step workflow agents, browser automation, and computer-use agents, along with the application and EHR integrations.

Own the cloud infrastructure end to end

Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines, containerize and deploy our Python and AI services with Docker and Kubernetes or ECS, manage infrastructure as code, and build out monitoring and alerting.

Build compliance into the architecture

Implement encryption at rest and in transit, role-based access control, and detailed audit logging for every pipeline and every agent action that touches PHI, so we can trace exactly what happened and stay HIPAA and SOC 2 compliant.

Set the technical foundation

Help define our engineering standards: code review practices, testing and observability bar, and the core architectural decisions on service boundaries, data models, and tooling that the next engineers will build on.

§ 03

What we're looking for

Real experience

You've spent at least a couple years writing software professionally and have actually taken a system from nothing to production and scale, not just a demo.

Strong Python chops

You know Python backends cold: APIs, data flows, and the unglamorous reliability work most people skip.

Curious about systems

Full-stack comfort. You're just as comfortable in a cloud service as you are in a desktop client, and you understand how the two talk to each other.

Security is second nature

You think about security while you're designing something, not after, and you get the odd new risks that come with software that can act on its own.

A pragmatic builder

You'd rather ship something real and improve it than sit on a perfect plan, but you also know which corners you shouldn't cut.

A generous teammate

You like explaining how things work and don't hold onto knowledge just to stay useful.

Ready to build with us?

Send your resume and a note on why you want to work here to careers@sakurahealth.ai. Tell us what you've shipped and what caught your attention about Sakura, that's what catches ours.
